Current Survey Projects
Updated July 2003
Lafayette Blue Cave System - Lafayette County,
Florida
At this time a resurvey has begun on the old Blue Spring / Green Sink /
Snake Sink cave system known aggregately as "Lafayette Blue". This system
contains some 25 known openings, and literally thousands and thousands of feet
of passage. The original map is incomplete in it's distances, known openings,
and level of detail. The survey began upstream and downstream of Kitty Sink. The
NACD currently has access permission into Kitty, Trap, and Skiles sinks. This
survey may take two years to complete.
Jess's Hole - Columbia County, Florida
Jess's Hole is a deep, vadose tube that drops dramatically from the forest
floor, in the woods, West of High Springs. This dry solution tube falls
vertically 40 feet, before reaching the water level. A survey has begun on this
cave, after the old guideline was replaced with gold line donated by the NACD.
With complete survey data taken in the downstream-1 tunnel and line plot data
taken in Downstream-2, the survey is well underway. This map should be completed
in 2003, and will offer both a plan and profile view of this system.
Little River Cave System - Suwannee County, Florida
Survey of this cave to begin in the Summer of 2003. An inspection dive has
yet to be made.
