Groundbreaking Research on Underwater Team Dynamics:

Your Participation is Needed

Researchers:
Dr. Jessica Methot, Rutgers University
Dr. Claudia Milz, University of Florida
Dr. Eean Crawford, Iowa State University
Dr. Jeffery LePine, Arizona State University

Gainesville, FL. Researchers originating from the University of Florida are sponsoring a groundbreaking research study for the underwater diving community. Your participation is needed in a never-before-done study on diving team dynamics and its effects on the success of underwater explorations.

Your participation in this research will make you an integral part of the ongoing efforts to redefine the ties binding underwater enthusiasts, explorers, conservationists, and scientific researchers. The findings from this research will help to develop safer, more skilled, and more knowledgeable divers, safeguard the integrity of the underwater world, promote global underwater exploration, and enhance the global knowledge-base of all things aquatic.

Participation in this research is completely free of charge. It will consist of (a) completing an initial (pre-dive) survey online which will take approximately 10 minutes in order to obtain information about your experience diving, background information, and personal traits, (b) completing a second survey after you complete a dive that asks about how your dive-team members interacted with one another, and (c) encouraging the majority of your dive team members to complete the pre- and post-dive surveys, as well. It is important that the majority of your team completes the surveys in order for the responses to be valid assessments of the team’s experience. The responses to these surveys will be confidential. The online survey data handling procedures ensure the complete confidentiality of your responses. Further, only the principal investigators will have access to your responses.

As an incentive, if you complete this pre-dive survey and ONE post-dive survey (and the majority of your team completes these two surveys, as well), each participating member will receive a $5 Amazon.com e-gift certificate. You may receive this gift multiple times, such that each additional post-dive survey results in additional compensation.

Please join in this important effort to understand the intricate nature of underwater team interactions and its impact on the success, effectiveness, and safety of underwater cave dives and explorations. If you are interested in participating, you may begin immediately by completing the initial online survey at the link listed below. You may click on this link directly or copy and paste it into your web browser:

If you have any questions about the study before agreeing to participate, please contact Jessica Methot at jmethot@smlr.rutgers.edu

Thank you for your participation!
